Yahaa! We’ve put RSS feeds to Sibers.com. Now you can stay tuned with our news using your favorite feed reader.
So, what’s out there in the world of RSS alligators aggregators? I had a problem of choosing the one for myself because I got sick refreshing same sites looking for changes. What I found out is, basically, that there are two confronting armies of them:
Probably the most popular online tool is Google Reader. Frankly speaking, I didn’t do much research with them, just tried the Google tool believing they are on the top. I’ve subscribed for a couple of feeds and none of them displayed correctly. Well, maybe that’s just the problem of XML inside the feeds. Anyway, a perspective of having one more tab constantly open inside Firefox was not that appealing.
Well, yes, I must say that along with Google Desktop this thing becomes offline, but I am not that fond of having a huge thing using so valuable 12” laptop screen inches on the right. Maybe I will write about all cool advantages of having a 12” screen some day. I just have to collect even more advantages.
Ok – now to offline tools. What tools you can find, depends on what Google search you do. RSS reader will return completely different results than Feed Reader.
I’ve started with Sage – a Firefox plugin. It does its job well, displaying feeds in the Sidebar. I use Sidebar only for checking history and updates for my plugins, so it was of little convenience for me. Also, having a dozen of plugins installed, I don’t want my Firefox to have even more stress with one more plugin. Let’s look for something separate.
Oh yes, you can of course read RSS and Atom feeds with Microsoft Outlook. Which I don’t use. Maybe some day.
RSS Reader – a freeware piece of software that I have installed now. What about it? Well, nothing much. Does its job without surprises. You may like it for its ascetic design, some nice navigation options… But nothing special, nothing special…
Feed Reader – people, I love it! I use it every day, every hour and can’t think of nothing more simple, easy and pleasant to use! It’s of course freeware, has all needed (but none useless) options, understand clicks from Firefox and being updated regularly. And it is beautiful. My choice. Feed Reader.
While writing this, I found Feed Burner. It allows you to add your blog’s feed to its database and do many cool things with it. Like analyze, monetize, and burn.
We are not affiliated with makers of any RSS reading tools, so that’s all just my point of view.
Sasha,
Following your recommendations I have downloaded and installed FeedReader. As for the simplicity and usability I do absolutely agree with you.
BUT …. it is so buggy!
I mean it craushes really a lot especially when I am deleting
something.
Yuriy.
Not a single crash since i installed it. Check your tiny red box 😉

As for me.
I used Miranda RSS reader. It’s to comfortable. It can only receive news and it is enough for me.
Now I use Mozilla Thunderbird, because miranda has instabilities with jabber plugin, which i need use
