No, no we do not move our office anywhere and don’t immigrate. Siberian woods in front of our office windows are too beautiful site to move from and the bears we usually feed on our way to work, would feel too lonely without us.
Our Java development team simply decided to choose Liferay Portal over JBoss Portal for our Java projects and thus we migrate our current projects. We came up with this decision for the following reasons:
-
New technologies support. This is one of the essential issues in choosing enterprise portals. Such popular new technologies as AJAX and Java Server Faces are better supported by Liferay portal since JBoss support of these two technologies is in the process of testing
-
Cross-platform support. Unlike JBoss, supported by any OS that runs JVM, Liferay does not have such limitation and is supported by any OS
-
Architecture. Organization structure in Liferay provides easier control over the tasks that users could perform.
-
Additional portlets. The number and variety of portlets used in Liferay is much larger than JBoss portlets.
-
Configuration. In order to configure Liferay you don’t have to edit its configuration file as you do while configuring JBoss.
So from now on Liferay becomes our favorite enterprise portal making life easier for you and for our development team as well!
With JBoss Portal 2.6, any change in opinion on JBoss Portal? How do you overcome documentation problem for Liferay?
Yeah, we welcome any changes and development. Documentation problems are well made up with Google and open source.
I am currently deciding between jboss portal and liferay (both on Jboss Server). I want develop by Jsf-Richfaces, there are some problems in using its with liferay?
Many thanks.
We have done some work to make the bridge work with Liferay, but it is not supported. I recommend Rob’s post for why you may want to chosse one container over the other:
