Influential “The Independent” has recently published “The Complete Guide To: Siberia”, which naturally intrigued us. Living and working in the heart of Siberia, we can competently comment on some of the article’s aspects without any prejudice to the author’s point of view, of course.
The Guide pretends to be “Complete” but is by far incomplete, especially with respect to Novosibirsk. Emphasis on Baikal, which the journalist seems to have soundly enjoyed, is quite understandable. However it doesn’t explain neglect of other attractive places, including both “civilized” and “wild-life” (to name just a few –The Novosibirsk State Opera House that is one of the biggest in the world and its stage is still bigger than that of Bolshoi Theater of Moscow!), Krasnoyarsk Stolby, the unique natural monument and paradise for climbers, numerous Siberian rivers and mountain ranges for the lovers of extreme sports, Khanty-Mansyisk with its unique ethnical flavor, and so on, and so forth.
Our city, Novosibirsk, deserved just a few lines, the principal one saying “Novosibirsk has little to attract the visitor, but it’s a way of reaching Tomsk”. You could compare it to phrases like London doesn’t deserve much of your attention, probably only as a gateway to Oxford (taking into account, that our visitor is tired of crowds in big cities) or Edinburgh is only a small Medieval town on the way to Inverness (in an attempt to see a Loch Ness Monster). Such statements seem to us a bit biased, don’t they?
Of course, Novosibirsk is the capital of Siberia and has attractions on all the letters of Russian alphabet (A – Я), as one of our Siberian magazines has recently discovered in its project, but it’s not going to overwhelm a visitor. You can find something just according to your interests.
Visitors with trade interests can find here Siberian Fair with exhibitions from all Siberian cities and towns in one place.
Visitors with scientific interests can discover a whole bunch of Research Institutes as part of the Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences holding their international conferences and seminars.
Visitors with interest in culture can spend all the holidays attending our numerous theatres and concerts of any kind from modern to classical and folklore ones.
Wildlife lovers are likely to enjoy the Botanical Gardens with its widest collections of plants from Siberia and the whole world as well as enjoy fishing and hunting in our forests, lakes and rivers, of which the Ob River is the greatest.
Finally you can’t help missing Akademgorodok, which has gathered quite a number of cultural, scientific and natural delights on one spot. Fancy staying at home with windows on the forest? Here you are. See more information in our site key-soft.net. And consult our customers who have already visited us. They have a lot to say.
